Movin' Out...

For those of you that frequent this blog, I have a new site that I am switching to that will make my life a little easier with regards to updating content. Blogger has served its purpose for the last few years, and while the new site isn't quite as pretty, the functionality is far superior. For instance, yesterday I uploaded all my "keepers" from our trip down south, all 360 of them, to the new site and it only took me a few hours, whereas on blogger, that would have been a tedious two week process.

No word if Jess is going to join me over there, but with any luck she will and we'll be able to amalgamate both of our blogs into one, making it easier for everyone to find us.

During my 6 hour expedition to the Airport last week, I came across a giant abandoned Brick factory in York Region and in more than a few spots, there were large holes in the concrete that connected the 6 or 7 large buildings. The odd thing was that underneath the concrete was layer after layer of brick... Almost as if they had built up the land using bricks instead of soil. There may have been tunnels connecting the buildings, but I wasn't in an adventurous enough mood to hop down and find out... Some things are better off left to the imagination.

I've wanted to post this picture since I took it a few month's back, but couldn't come up with a song title that really suited it. I've been referring to it as "No Line on the Horizon", but I'll be damned if I'm going to put a U2 song on this blog (Note: Unless it's Angel of Harlem).

We just had this printed on a 20" x 26" canvas and as soon as I saw it, the song above came to me. Its melancholy feel is exactly what I get when I look at this picture.

(Additional note: Jess just pointed out that "No Beginning No End" is actually the name of the very first post on this blog from 2006, how apropos.)

I've included the original uncropped image below. Although I liked how the scale of everything gave context to how small the little girl was, I found the reflections in the windows above her too distracting. I'm much happier with the cropped version, I was still able to frame the picture properly without completely losing the scale.

This song title inspired many concepts, but this was the most PG (not to mention PC) idea that I came up with. It was supposed to be a woman's hand reaching for the lolli, but unfortunately Jess doesn't have Costanza hands. Thanks to our neighbour Jessica for tracking down the antique carriage, which was exactly what I had in mind for this shot. If I find the time tomorrow, I may bring it outside and try a couple variations of this shot in the park. If they come out the way I'm envisioning them, I'll post them here as well.

With the new year comes a new experiment, and purpose, for this blog.

Over the next 52 weeks, my goal is to post a picture a week that is based on a song title. This concept has been bouncing around in my head for a while now (as evidenced by some previous post titles on this blog), but a forum that I frequent recently held a contest based on song title literalisms (I placed 4th) and it has renewed my interest in pursuing this further. For the record, the posts that you will see over the next year have not been planned out in any way. Although I do have a short list of titles and ideas, I hope it will be a constantly evolving concept. So much so, that I welcome anyone browsing this blog to submit requests for songs (or bands, for that matter) that they would like to see here. I'm not going to guarantee anything, but if a title or band triggers something creative, it could very well end up here.

So here we go. Let's kick it off with the aforementioned 4th place entry that sparked this whole thing.

We finished Phase 1 of our yard remodeling today... It was a lot of work, but it looks amazing, and we couldn't have done it without the help of my Dad. From hauling bricks to Pickering from Newmarket, to his experienced opinion on tearing down the deck and building the fence, to his very generous "early inheritance", we really should nickname it "Bruno's Landing"... But in all seriousness, the coolest thing about it... We don't need to call it that, because I can already envision him sitting out there in the early morning light with a cup of coffee and the paper... Which is pretty damn cool, and is also why this is an "Ode to Bruno".

Here's to you, Dad.

Well, I hate to say it, but I saw this coming since the trade deadline. Letting Huet go for a bag of peanuts would ultimately come back to haunt the Habs. Was Price good? Phenomenal, even? During the last quarter of the season... Yes, Absolutely! But does that mean that Gainey should have given up a proven netminder and left Carboneau with two rookie goaltenders to lead the team to the cup? Absolutely... Not! That's my opinion, and ultimately, that was their undoing (again, my opinion). Like it or not, it sucks, but it's the truth.

Maybe next season... But then again, maybe not. The ball is in Gainey's court...

My apologies to the four of you that frequent this blog... Lately I haven't had the time to think, let alone think about pictures... THIS is why I didn't apply for manager... Just acting as one is demoralizing (not to mention time-consuming) enough.

My trigger finger will likely start itching with the warmer weather, so hopefully there will be new stuff posted soon.

Last night's Lunar Eclipse was pretty freekin' cool. On the downside, it took a very cold night to get such clarity. On the upside, I managed to narrowly escape frostbite and snap the half hour leading up to the total eclipse (no, not "of the heart" Bonnie Tyler! Jeez It's been what? 25 Years since that gem and you're still riding it for all it worth?)

The first pic is, by far, my favourite of the bunch. The next two after that are just wide shots with some stars in the frame, and the last six are the actual sequence.

This is a shot of my new toy... A sweet-sounding Fender acoustic bass. Been having lots of fun with it for the last couple of weeks and now that I've built up the callus' on my fingers, it doesn't hurt as much to play for extended periods, much to everyone's dismay.
